IPCC: Leven op aarde zoals we het kennen zal binnen enkele decennia onomkeerbaar veranderd zijn.
De huidige acties om de broeikasgasuitstoot in te perken, schieten tekort om grootschalige klimaatrampen te voorkomen. Dat blijkt uit een concept-rapport van het Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
“Life on Earth can recover from a drastic climate shift by evolving into new species and creating new ecosystems … humans cannot.”
Maar het goede nieuws uit dit artikel van The Guardian is dat het nog niet te laat is: “This is a fixable problem. We could stop global warming in a generation if we wanted to, which would mean limiting future warming to not much more than has happened already this century. We also know how. It’s just a matter of getting on with it.”
